Specifications and Price of the Redmi 8A

Xiaomi has done it again. A great smartphone in a budget price.

Today Xiaomi has launched its latest budget device Redmi 8A in India. And this is first in India from the ‘8’ Series. Just like always it is not a major improvement on the Redmi 7A but the ones that are improved are major in their way.

For a quick outlook, Redmi 8A has a better display, battery, design, and charging port. The other features like processor, audio jack, wireless FM and dual sim card tray with dedicated SD card slot remains the same. With every release we say to ourselves that “what more could we ask for”, and then next time Xiaomi does it again with improvements with the same pricing. The only thing we don’t know for sure is the Camera, this can only be known after some hands-on testing.

Now let’s look at some features in detail.

1] Display:

15.8cm (6.22) High Definition Display | Dot Notch Design | Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5

The Redmi 8A now gets you more screen space with the Dot Notch Design. Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 ensures that your display is well protected against accidental falls and drops.

This display is an improvement upon the previous 7A’s display.

2] Battery:

5000mAh High-capacity Battery | Supports 18W Fast Charge | Type-C Port

With the massive 5000mAh battery, you can now watch more videos, click more pictures, play more games on a single charge. The powerful battery features 18W Fast Charge support, so you can be back in action in no time.

Xiaomi has gone all-out in this segment, along with the 1000mAh increase in battery size the Type-C port and fast charging makes in the only smartphone in this price segment to have this feature. This is just amazing.

3] Camera:

12MP AI Primary Camera, Sony IMX363 sensor | f/1.8, 1.4μm large pixel size, Dual PD | AI Portrait mode | AI Scene detection

Redmi bring the goodness of flagship-level cameras to you in the Redmi A series. The Redmi 8A features a 12MP AI Rear camera with a Sony IMX363 sensor that delivers crystal clear pictures each time. The 1.4μm large pixel offers great low light performance.

The Redmi 7A had a Sony IMX486 sensor so it is not clear whether it going to be an improvement or not.

8MP AI Selfie camera | AI Selfie portrait | AI Face unlock

With the AI Portrait mode, you can capture spectacular selfies while blurring out the background. The front camera is an improvement upon 5MP camera in Redmi 7A.

4] Design:

Better hand grip | Fingerprint resistant

The Aura design philosophy takes a step forward with a brand new wave grip pattern at the back of the phone. The pattern looks stylish while giving you the perfect grip and guarding against fingerprint marks. It also has P2i water-repellent coating to prevent damage from minor splashes.

Moreover, there is three color variant this time.

The Sunset Red
The Ocean Blue and
The Midnight Black

5] Processor & Storage:

Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 439 | Octa -core up to 2.0Ghz
Expandable up to 512GB, 2+1 SIM Card slot

The processor is the same as the Redmi 7A so I don’t think there would be a major improvement in performance over the 7A. But the Snapdragon 439 is more than capable of handling day-to-day tasks smoothly.

6] Pricing and Sale:

Redmi has again priced the Redmi 8A very aggressively and competitively among other companies and even amongst the Redmi 7A. The Redmi 8A is priced just 300 INR more than Redmi 7A. Here is the detailed pricing

2GB RAM + 32GB ROM – 6,499 INR
3GB RAM + 32GB ROM – 6,999 INR

The first sale will be on 29 September at 11:59 PM on Flipkart and Mi.com

So are you guys going to buy the new Redmi 8A? Let me know in comments below.
